Position Overview
The Waco Police Department offers a robust Criminal Justice Internship Program designed to expose college students to the diverse facets of a career in law enforcement. This competitive program provides insight into departmental operations, preparing students for a rewarding career in public safety.
Interns may have opportunities to observe or gain exposure to areas such as:
- Criminal Investigations
- Crime Scene Unit
- Public Information Office
- Community Engagement
- Training Division
- Communications (911 Dispatch)
- Specialized Units (based on availability)

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with administrative and operational projects.
- Observe departmental functions and gain exposure to specialized units and daily operations.
- Support community outreach events, crime prevention initiatives, and public engagement activities.
- Conduct research and assist with special projects as assigned.
- Complete assigned tasks independently while collaborating effectively with department personnel.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in a related field of interest.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
- interest in law enforcement and public service.
- Successful completion of required background screening.
Skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Standard office environment with occasional community events or off-site assignments.
- Some evening or weekend availability for special events (if applicable).
