Position Overview

The Waco Police Department offers a robust Criminal Justice Internship Program designed to expose college students to the diverse facets of a career in law enforcement. This competitive program provides insight into departmental operations, preparing students for a rewarding career in public safety.

Interns may have opportunities to observe or gain exposure to areas such as:

  • Criminal Investigations
  • Crime Scene Unit
  • Public Information Office
  • Community Engagement
  • Training Division
  • Communications (911 Dispatch)
  • Specialized Units (based on availability)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative and operational projects.
  • Observe departmental functions and gain exposure to specialized units and daily operations.
  • Support community outreach events, crime prevention initiatives, and public engagement activities.
  • Conduct research and assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Complete assigned tasks independently while collaborating effectively with department personnel.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in a related field of interest.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • interest in law enforcement and public service.
  • Successful completion of required background screening.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Standard office environment with occasional community events or off-site assignments.
  • Some evening or weekend availability for special events (if applicable).
