Texas Vaccines for Children Program (TVFC)

Always remember to vaccinate your child on time!

No one else can do it for you. Protecting your child from preventable diseases by making sure vaccinations are on time is up to you. If you’re not sure your child’s vaccines are up to date, call your doctor’s office or clinic to find out.

The Texas Vaccines for Children Program (TVFC) is a State supported program that provides low cost vaccines to any child that qualifies through any participating clinic. Ask your doctor or clinic if they participate in the TVFC program.

For more information about the TVFC Program, about vaccines and childhood diseases, or if you do not have a doctor or clinic where your child can get vaccinations, call our office at (254)750-5410.

Travel Vaccines

Need travel vaccines? Plan ahead.

International travel increases your chances of getting and spreading diseases that are rare or not found in United States.

  • Find out which travel vaccines you may need to help you stay healthy on your trip.
  • Make sure you are up to date with all of your routine vaccines.
  • Bring a copy of your official immunization records with you when you travel.
  • Because some vaccines require multiple doses, it’s best to see your health care provider as soon as possible.

Our Immunization Clinic has all of your routine vaccines and the travel vaccines for Typhoid and Yellow Fever along with all necessary documentation which is required for travel to certain countries.

These travel vaccines are available on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Additional Information

First Time Clients

Please bring a copy of your child’s shot record with you so we can assess any shots that may have been missed. Not doing so may result in repeated visits to your physician’s office or our clinic based on the requirements set by your child’s school/university or daycare.

Back to School

Remember, immunizations are required for students to attend school in the state of Texas. Waiting until July or August to visit the Immunization Clinic can turn your 30-minute clinic visit to an all-day event waiting in line. You can find school and daycare requirements on the DSHS website. If you need shots or shot records, don't wait until the last minute!

REMINDER: Our clinic only retains shot records for children and adults who have been vaccinated in our Clinic. The accuracy of records pulled from Immtrac2 (the statewide database) cannot be guaranteed as it relies on the participation of any providers you may have seen in the past.

Physicals

Waco-McLennan Public Health does NOT provide physicals.

Background Checks/Drug Testing

The Health District does NOT offer background checks or drug tests.

Shot Records

Our clinic only retains shot records for children and adults who have been vaccinated in our Clinic. Additional records may be located via Immtrac2 (the statewide database). The accuracy of records pulled from Immtrac2 cannot be guaranteed as it relies on the participation of any providers you may have seen in the past. If you would like your child’s vaccine records to be held in Immtrac2, you must opt in by signing a consent. If your child wishes to continue to have access to their vaccine records after reaching adulthood, they must sign a consent to opt in as an adult.

A shot record will be provided at your vaccination appointment. Any additional records require a small fee.

NOTE: We do not collect shot records from your physician’s office, nor are they reported to us for retention.

Recommended Immunizations by Age

Vaccination is one of the best ways parents can protect infants, children, and teens from 16 potentially harmful diseases that can be very serious, may require hospitalization, or even be deadly.

Immunizations are not just for children. Protection from some childhood vaccines can wear off over time. Adults may also be at risk for vaccine-preventable disease due to age, job, lifestyle, travel, or health conditions.

Visit our Recommended Immunizations page to learn what other vaccines you and your family may need. Check with your family’s healthcare provider to make sure everyone is up to date on recommended vaccines.

Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program

Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program

In Texas, the Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program (PHBPP) mandates that all pregnant women be screened for Hepatitis B at their first prenatal visit and again at delivery. This testing is required by Texas law, specifically Texas Administrative Code Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 97, Subchapter F, §97.135. The program aims to prevent the transmission of Hepatitis B from mother to child by identifying infected mothers and ensuring proper management and treatment, including vaccination of the infant at birth.

Role of Health Care Providers:

  • Screen all pregnant women for Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) during each pregnancy, preferably in the first trimester, regardless of their vaccination status or testing history.
  • Re-screen women at increased risk of infection for HBsAg at delivery, even if they had a negative result early in the pregnancy.
  • Test women with unknown HBsAg status or those without prenatal care at the time of delivery.
  • Report all HBsAg-positive women to the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District (WMCHD).

Waco-McLennan Public Health offers the following confidential services to pregnant women who are diagnosed with Hepatitis B Infection:

  • Case management services for the mother and infant for up to the first 2 years of life
  • Education for the pregnant women and her family on Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis B vaccination for infant, if needed

Training for Providers:

We offer training for Physicians, Nurses, or other staff on Perinatal Hepatitis B.
