On September 11, 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved and authorized the emergency use of updated COVID-19 vaccines to target current circulating variants. These vaccines provide better protection against serious consequences of COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.
The FDA has not yet authorized or approved an updated Novavax vaccine for 2023-2024. As part of the FDA’s actions, the bivalent Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines are no longer authorized, and the new formulations that are approved for use have not yet shipped from the manufacturers. Therefore, the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District is unable to provide COVID vaccines until the new formulations arrive. We will keep our website updated as to when we receive the new formulations.
