We work to protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents by ensuring that development and construction within the City of Waco comply with adopted building codes, local ordinances, and state regulations. The department reviews construction plans and issues permits for new construction, renovations, and other building-related projects. Staff members evaluate plans to verify compliance with applicable codes and provide guidance to contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners throughout the permitting process.
Once permits are issued, inspection staff monitor construction through required field inspections at various stages of the project. These inspections help ensure that building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other permitted work is completed safely and according to approved plans and code requirements. Through plan review, permit issuance, and on-site inspections, the department helps maintain safe structures and supports responsible development within the community.
