Consider an ordinance amendment to Chapter 28 Zoning of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Waco, Texas for the purpose of adding a definition for Accessory Dwelling Unit, determining the zoning districts in which Accessory Dwelling Unit will be allowed as a permitted use, and establishing design and development standards for Accessory Dwelling Unit.
Purpose Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU):
Accessory dwelling units are intended to provide an opportunity for alternative housing options in single-family residential neighborhoods while preserving the character of these neighborhoods. This is intended to make neighborhoods more resilient against changing market conditions, allow more efficient use of existing infrastructure, provide alternative housing options and a means for property owners to realize additional income while residents remain in place.

- March 28, 2023: Plan Commission public hearing
- April 18, 2023: City Council public hearing and 1st reading
- May 2, 2023: City Council 2nd reading
