Virginia DuPuy Park Development Project

The Virginia DuPuy Park Development Project will transform the property located at 2301–2323 Austin Avenue into a vibrant pocket park in the heart of Waco. This 1.326-acre site will become an inviting neighborhood space designed for residents, visitors, and the surrounding community to gather, relax, and enjoy the outdoors.

Project Description

Located along the Austin Avenue corridor, the park will provide a unique and welcoming space that enhances the character of the area while supporting Waco’s continued downtown revitalization. The project aims to create a trendy, accessible environment where people can connect with one another, spend time outdoors, and experience the energy of the neighborhood.

The park is named in honor of former Waco Mayor Virginia DuPuy, whose leadership played a vital role in shaping the city’s growth and revitalization. During her time as mayor, DuPuy championed downtown redevelopment, strengthened partnerships between the City, local businesses, and higher education institutions, and supported initiatives that advanced education and community collaboration.

Virginia DuPuy Park will serve as both a new gathering place for the community and a tribute to Mayor DuPuy’s legacy in helping move Waco forward.

Schedule

  • Winter - Spring 2026: Contract proposals, City Council approvals, and project initiation
  • Spring - Summer 2026: Design development and refinement
  • Summer - Fall 2026: City review, bidding process, City Council approvals, and contract execution
  • Fall 2026 - Winter 2027: Construction phase
  • Early Spring 2027: Project completion and opening

Funding

The project is funded with $750k in Capital Improvement Funds allocated for property acquisition and construction.
