The China Spring Park Project represents a strategic investment in the recreational and cultural amenities available to the growing China Spring community. This new park will provide residents with enhanced opportunities for outdoor recreation, fitness, and social connectivity, aligning with the City of Waco's mission to foster vibrant, accessible spaces for all.

The City of Waco, along with the RVi Planning + Landscape Architecture team, is developing a vision plan to guide creation of the park. The project kicked off in October 2023 with an in-depth site analysis and creation of a virtual site tour.

RVi also designed Brazos Park East. The new park will be a multi-purpose community park designed to serve residents of all ages. The park is planned for the corner of Jonquil and Flat Rock Road, across from the Waco Regional Airport.

  • Walking and biking trails to promote fitness and outdoor activities.
  • Open green spaces for picnics, sports, and relaxing.
  • Splash pad and restrooms.
  • A community pavilion for events and gatherings.
  • Parking lot for easy park access.

Schedule

  • Winter 2024 - Spring 2025: Permitting and Bidding, Contracting
  • Summer 2025: Notice to Proceed / Construction Start
  • Estimated Construction Timeline: 9-12 Months
  • Winter 2025 - Winter 2026: Estimated Projected Completion

Community Engagement

Waco Parks and Recreation remains committed to an inclusive engagement process and ensured residents had multiple opportunities to provide feedback and share their vision for the park. Public input was gathered through stakeholder workshops and a public meeting in January 2024. An online survey was also circulated throughout the community and promoted on the City's website, e-newsletters and social media channels. The feedback collected was used to develop the proposed program elements for the park and initial park development concepts.

Funding

The project is funded with $3.16 million in Capital Improvement Funds allocated for design and construction.
