Fire Station 3

Fire Station 3

Station 3 originated as Waco Hose and Ladder Company No. 2 at 206 Elm Street in East Waco on May 28, 1886, when the election of officers took place. This was 13 years after the formation of Waco's volunteer fire department. The company remained at this location until November 1890, when a celebration was held to mark the opening of a new station at 511 Tyler Street. This station serviced the department until around 1917, when a new facility was constructed on the same block.

In July 1955, a report by the Texas Fire Prevention Bureau recommended relocating Station 3 from 505 Tyler Street to the corner of Elm and Hillsboro to better serve the community. In December 1957, Waco voters approved a bond package that allocated funds for the new station, which opened in 1958 at 1400 Elm Street. For nearly 49 years, Station 3 provided service to nearly all of East Waco and the growing Timbercrest neighborhood.

In May 2007, Waco voters passed another bond package that included funding to build a new Station 3 on the campus of Texas State Technical College (TSTC). In June 2009, the Waco City Council authorized a contract for the construction of this station, which opened in 2010. Today, it is home to Engine 3, which serves the TSTC campus and the surrounding area. It also houses two aircraft rescue firefighting trucks to support the TSTC airport, including one for L3Harris.
