He went on to serve on Waco’s Building Standards Commission until his appointment to Waco City Council in June 2020. Being the youngest councilmember in our city’s history didn’t prevent Darius from jumping in and making an impact right away. Just after his appointment he began working closely with Prosper Waco to launch UpSkill Waco, a job training program that equips Wacoans with the skills necessary to obtain high-paying, permanent employment.
Since last serving on council, Darius has joined the United Way of Waco-McLennan County’s Community Impact Committee and serves as a board member for Keep Waco Beautiful and Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market.
Darius and his wife Hannah are active members of Highland Baptist Church, and the Dean Highland Neighborhood Association. On most days, you can find Darius walking their two dogs, Griffin and Otis, around the Dean Highland neighborhood.
