Overview

The City of Waco receives two federal grant programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME). Both grants allow funding of several programs and activities that benefit our residents.

The Application Workshop is mandatory for qualified organizations to apply for funding.

Community Development Block Grant

What is the Community Development Block Grant Program?

  • The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is an entitlement grant which the City of Waco receives every year from the Department of Housing and Urban Development with the Federal Government.
  • The grant is specifically to help low to moderate income people, to directly eliminate slum and blight conditions in low to moderate income areas, and to meet urgent needs when natural disasters occur.

Equal Housing Opportunity

HOME Investment Partnerships Program

The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) is a grant that the City of Waco has received each year from the Department of Housing and Urban Development since 1992.

The grant is designed to create affordable housing for families with lower incomes through both City-administered programs and with the help of local Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs).

Who Can Apply?

  • Not-for-profit and private housing developers
  • Families earning below 80 percent of the area median income (AMI)

Some Eligible Activities

  • Development of new affordable housing
  • Rehabilitation of existing housing for purchase by lower income families
  • Homebuyer purchase assistance

Past Projects

  • Single family homes built by local nonprofit development agencies
  • Brook Oaks Senior Residences (Mercy Housing, Denver, CO)
