Station 8 has a unique history, as it has experienced two distinct phases of service. The North End Fire Station was established in 1893, with a celebration to mark its opening held on December 21 of that year. Initially known as Engine Company No. 3, it later became referred to as North End Station No. 8. At that time, the station was located at the corner of 9th and Vermont (now called Colcord) and served parts of North Waco. However, in October 1933, the city closed the station as an economy measure and reassigned the firefighters to other stations, marking the end of the first phase of Station 8's life.
Discussions about the need for a new fire station in West Waco began in 1951. In December 1957, Waco voters approved a $12 million bond package that included funding for three new fire stations, one of which was to be located at Lake Air and Cobbs. In August 1959, the city council awarded the contract to construct the new station, and construction was completed in the spring of 1960. The second phase of Station 8's existence commenced when it answered its first call on June 10, 1960. Today, the station houses Engine 8 and Boat 8, and it is recognized as one of the city's busiest fire stations.
