Applications are now closed. We have filled all the seats for the 2026 session. Check back in January 2027 for the next round of applications.

Ready for a fun, behind-the-scenes look at how your city runs? Sign up for Waco City Academy! The free ten-session class features presentations and activities from most City of Waco departments. You could find yourself filming a city PSA, taking a seat in the official council chambers, interacting with real police equipment, or even feeding a giraffe.

Waco City Academy takes place on nine Thursday evenings plus a Saturday session.

  • The Thursday classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 5 through May 7 (excluding March 12 for spring break).
  • The Saturday field trip will be held on Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Seats are limited to 20 people, first applied/first enrolled. The application deadline is at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16 (or until seats are filled).

To be eligible for Waco City Academy, applicants must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Reside within Waco city limits.
  • Be able to participate in classroom-style sessions with guided tours and activities. (Reasonable accommodations are available upon request.)
  • Be able to commit to attend classes for two hours per week.
  • Have an interest in learning more about your local government.
