September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and the Waco-McLennan County Library is celebrating with fresh starts, fun prizes, and a chance for the community to reconnect with the library.

From September 1 to 30, the Waco-McLennan County Libraries are offering fine forgiveness. Patrons who return overdue or lost items during September will have the related fines removed from their accounts — no matter how long it’s been.

To add to the celebration, everyone who signs up for a new library card this month will be entered into special prize drawings, including:

  • A Dr Pepper Museum gift basket
  • Mystery book bags by age group (kids, teens, adults)

“Your library card is your key to stories, learning, and discovery,” said Roberto Zapata, Director of Library & Cultural Enrichment. “This September, we’re pairing Fine Forgiveness with these fun drawings to encourage the whole community to reconnect with the library.”

Perks of a Library Card

A Waco-McLennan County Library card gives access to:

  • Books, audiobooks, and eBooks for all ages
  • Digital streaming of movies, music, and TV
  • Online learning tools including test prep, language learning, and career support
  • Free programs and events for children, teens, and adults
  • Research and genealogy resources

How to Get a Library Card

Signing up is free and easy. Residents can begin the application online and then bring proof of identity and residency to any of the four branches.

Special Edition Library Card

Library card that looks like a retro book checkout log. The library is also debuting a special edition library card this September in honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month. A limited supply is available. If you already have a library card, you swap yours for the new design with a new barcode. Please note, it may affect your logins on digital apps like Kanopy or CloudLibrary.
