New Solid Waste Facilities to Open March 2

The Solid Waste Transfer Station and new Landfill will begin to accept waste from the public on Monday, March 2, 2026. The existing landfill will cease operation on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Construction on the facilities was completed in Fall 2025. Since then, City of Waco Solid Waste trucks have been taking waste to the new locations to establish a fluff layer—a layer of trash free of sharp objects that helps protect the landfill liner from damage.

Each new facility includes a Customer Convenience Center, a quick and easy option for customers to drop off trash, recyclables, tires, and other household waste without joining the main landfill queue.

Residential solid waste customers will be able drop off up to one ton (2,000 pounds) of waste at either location four times per year at no additional cost.

The new facilities are a great addition to the City’s comprehensive Solid Waste services, supporting an excellent customer experience and representing a major investment into the future.

• We provide waste management services for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional garbage collection and disposal.
• A city-owned and operated 237-acre landfill is managed for the end disposal of wastes originating in Waco and the surrounding region.
• We are a self-supporting entity not funded by city tax dollars, funds come from solid waste service fees paid by customers.
