Station 3 began as Waco Hose and Ladder Company No. 2, organized in East Waco on May 28, 1886, just 13 years after the creation of Waco’s volunteer fire department. The original station was located at 206 Elm Street before moving to a new facility at 511 Tyler Street in 1890. Around 1917, another station was constructed on the same block to continue serving the growing East Waco community.
In the 1950s, fire officials recommended relocating the station to improve service coverage. Following voter approval of a 1957 bond package, a new Station 3 opened in 1958 at 1400 Elm Street. For nearly five decades, the station protected much of East Waco and the growing Timbercrest neighborhood.
In 2007, Waco voters approved funding for another relocation, this time to the campus of Texas State Technical College (TSTC). Station 3, which opened in 2010, today serves the TSTC campus and the surrounding area. It is home to Engine 3 and two aircraft rescue firefighting trucks that support the TSTC airport, including operations for L3Harris.
