Congratulations to Animal Services Director Melissa Sheldon on earning her Certified Animal Welfare Administrator (CAWA) credential!
The CAWA credential recognizes experienced animal welfare professionals who demonstrate high-level knowledge and leadership in the management and operation of animal welfare and animal control organizations. Candidates must meet professional experience requirements and successfully complete the CAWA exam.
Melissa joined the City of Waco in 2022 and brings 14 years of experience in animal welfare to her role. This latest achievement follows her recognition as the 2025 National Animal Care & Control Association Animal Shelter Professional of the Year and reflects her continued commitment to strengthening animal welfare in Waco.
