Purpose

The MTP is designed to guide the development and planning of roadways in the City of Waco by identifying current and future needs for transportation infrastructure. The plan’s purpose is to provide a well-organized, safe, and effective transportation network that supports growth and enhances roadway design within the City of Waco.

Background

The MTP is a comprehensive framework that encompasses the classification of roadways, including arterials, collectors, and local streets.

The City of Waco is updating the Master Thoroughfare Plan (MTP), which was previously developed by the Waco MPO in 2012.

The 2012 project had two primary objectives:

  1. To create adequate access for school buses and emergency vehicles to all areas of McClennan County
  2. To create a regional plan that promoted safety and traffic circulation

The 2012 MTP was designed with a focus on regional facilities and arterials, with the intent of supporting and preserving long-range transportation planning throughout the City of Waco.
