David Olson, Assistant City Manager

David Olson, PE, has served the City of Temple, Texas, since March 2019 as an Assistant City Manager. A licensed Professional Engineer and native Central Texan, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Texas A&M University. In Temple, he has helped oversee major operational departments and guide significant infrastructure, utility, and economic development initiatives, bringing a strong combination of technical expertise and executive leadership to the role.

Before joining Temple, Olson served the City of Killeen as Director of Transportation, Executive Director of Public Works, and Acting Assistant City Manager. Earlier in his career, he spent a number of years in the private sector as an engineering consultant focused on municipal and land development projects. Throughout his career, he has built a strong background in public works management, infrastructure implementation, and organizational leadership, along with a reputation as a practical, people-centered leader who is committed to developing staff and improving public service delivery.

Olson is motivated by a belief that the greatest change and the most meaningful success stories begin with individuals taking action in their local communities. That belief has shaped his commitment to public service and continues to guide his work in local government. He and his wife, Chelsea, have three sons: Morgan, Mason, and Clayton.
