The Bosque River Coalition (BRC) is an organization of individuals and entities sharing a common interest in the Bosque River and its watershed, including landowners and businesses, and the City of Waco, the owner of water rights in Lake Waco. Members have devoted their time, energy and financial resources to the work of the BRC and to environmental practices that promote:
- Water Quality
- Conservation
- Habitat Restoration
- Responsible Waste Management
The BRC is committed to ensuring that state and federal regulators hear the voices of all who are concerned about the Bosque River and its watershed.
Generations of families in Erath and Bosque counties have fond memories of swimming and fishing in the Bosque River. However, recent studies by Texas A&M University's Texas Water Resource Institute (TWRI), Tarleton State University's Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research (TIAER) and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have all found the Bosque to be impaired and degraded. We believe that through good land management practices, this friendly and inviting river can be restored.

The Bosque River Watershed has a drainage area of more than 1,600 square miles, extending northwest to parts of Bosque, Coryell, Hamilton, and Erath Counties.
Major stream segments in the watershed include the North Bosque, Middle Bosque, Hog Creek and South Bosque. At the confluence of the major tributaries, the streams are impounded to form Lake Waco, which provides drinking water for over 200,000 residents in and around the City of Waco.

Riparian Restoration: Encouraging increased vegetation, riparian zone expansion and improvement.
Aquatic Community Enhancement: Improving in-stream habitat, stocking of native fish.
Waste-To-Energy Initiatives: Advising and encouraging responsible and beneficial uses of waste.
Wetlands Construction: Building and restoring habitat areas that have a positive impact on water quality.
Pl-566 Maintenance & Improvement: Ensuring stream detention / erosion control areas continue to function properly.
Advocacy: In addition to field and community work, the brc works with agencies and lawmakers to protect the river and watershed at the legislative level.
Community Use & Appreciation of Water Resources: Sponsoring special events, such as youth fishing tournaments; conducting surveys of aquatic community and landowner use.
Soil Conservation Assistance for Members: Consulting with land owners to enhance soil quality.
The Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research (TIAER) has created a report to provide the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) with water data collected by TIAER from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2022.
A project to improve water quality by developing and implementing TMDLs. The TMDLs are adopted and the I-Plan is approved; together, they provide the road map to improved water quality.
