Station 12 has been in operation since 1991, although it has relocated four times. It is currently situated in a different part of the city from its original location at Texas State Technical College (TSTC), which had a state-funded fire department. The campus fire station at 602 Airline Drive was transferred to the city of Waco in 1991.
In June 2001, the city closed this station due to mold issues, moving the engine and crew to the Raytheon E-System Airborne Systems station, now known as L3Harris. For a period, they also operated out of Station 3 on Elm Avenue.
Due to the growth of the China Spring area, it became necessary to build a new station there to enhance fire protection, which was previously provided by the Waco Regional Airport station. The new station, located at Flat Rock Road and China Spring Highway, was dedicated on March 1, 2006. The substantial growth in that part of the city has proven the decision to construct the station to be a wise investment. Today, it houses Engine 12, Brush 12, and Boat 12.
