The Texas Association of City & County Health Officials (TACCHO) named the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District the 2023-2024 Health Department of the Year at its annual conference in Houston. TACCHO is the premier member organization serving both Texas local public health officials and the departments they lead. Their goal is to enhance local public health practices in Texas to improve the health of Texans and the communities in which they live.
Regardless of size, local health departments in Texas strive to realize this goal through disease prevention and the promotion and protection of the health of all those who reside in Texas. The TACCHO Local Health Department (LHD) of the Year Award was established to honor these efforts performed by LHDs in Texas.
LaShonda Malrey-Horne, Health District Director, accepted the award along with several other Health District staff members attending the conference.
