Wading Through Waco Waters Tour

Aerial view of Lake Waco

The City of Waco with the Mayborn Museum and Baylor University offer the Wading Through Waco Waters tour to the community twice a year to showcase how we get water to consumers and how you can be a water advocate.

The tour follows the journey of a water drop from the dam where water enters the reservoir to the wastewater plant where the water returns to the river. Participants will learn about the science, planning, and hard work involved in producing high-quality drinking water for the Waco community.

Registration

Each session is limited to 25 participants and participants must be 18 years old or older. For more information, please contact Nora Schell at (254) 848-9654 or noras@wacotx.gov.

City of Waco Water Utility Services offers free tours of our facilities for schools, educational organizations, and wholesale customers. Three tours are available:

  • Water Treatment Plants: Water treatment plants take raw water from Lake Waco and treat it to make the high-quality drinking water we all expect. Tours of these facilities explain and highlight this process.
  • Wastewater Treatment Plants: Wastewater treatment plants clean sewage water to return it downstream in the Brazos River. The tour explains and highlights the process through all phases of wastewater treatment.
  • Lake Waco Wetlands: The Lake Waco Wetlands are a manmade wetland created as part of a habitat mitigation project in 2004. The tour includes a walkthrough of the Research and Education Center, watershed education and a hands-on tour of the Wetlands.

There is also an option to tour all three facilities.
