51st Citizens Police Academy Application Deadline

The academy begins Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:30 P.M. Classes are held each Thursday for 12 weeks at the Waco Police Department located at 3115 Pine Ave. The deadline for applications is Friday, January 20, 2017 at 5:00 P.M.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a police officer? Wondered what type of training officers go through? Why officers do what they do? Well here is your chance to get some insight! The Community Outreach Section of the Waco Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 51st Waco Citizens Police Academy. This academy is designed to give citizens a working knowledge of the Waco Police Department and raises citizens awareness. Class topics include police recruiting, traffic stops, SWAT, police negotiations, K-9, building searches, gun range, crime scene, crime prevention, dispatch, defensive tactics, active shooter, drug awareness, family violence, crimes against children, and more. Instruction consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours and/or hands-on activities. Applicants are subject to a criminal background investigation, prior to being accepted into the academy. Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy are eligible to join the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. The goal of the Association is to enhance relations between the community and the police force. This academy is FREE, fun, and best of all educational!
