Tatting for Beginners/Bobbin Lace Making

This course will meet on MCC campus Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8 pm beginning January 28th and ending March 3rd.

Learn the art of tatting or bobbin lace making. Tatting is a type of lace making that uses various knots, thread and a "shuttle." Susan Merritt will teach you fundamental tatting techniques, types of threads, how to read patterns and how to finish your project. For those interested in bobbin lace making, Susan will teach basic skills with an emphasis on tape lace. You'll learn how to wind and hang on bobbins, as well as three types of stitches. Begin with a tape lace sampler, and then make a bookmark, bracelet or ornament. A brief history and contemporary applications will be discussed throughout the course. Cost includes instructions, patterns and supplies to get your started in tatting. For bobbin supplies, bring $45 to the first class. Registration cost is $79.
