Baylor University Theatre Presents: An Experiment With An an Air Pump

Directed by Laura Nicholas, For tickets call the Baylor Theatre Box Office: 254-710-1865. In Joseph Wright’s 1769 painting, a group of people huddle around a “natural philosopher” by candlelight, eager for the results of a dark experiment. In British playwright Shelagh Stephenson’s play, as in Wright’s painting, science and humanity clash, run parallel, and intersect on the brink of revolution. Moments of light-heartedness and memorable characters punctuate a suspense-filled journey through two decades connected by the secrets of the same shadowy house and the Fenwick family. As evocative an art piece as Wright’s candlelit scene is, the conflict on display in Stephenson’s writing promises to be just as haunting.

Rapunzel - A Musical Adventure

Christian Youth Theater (CYT) of Waco is performing its fifth musical, Rapunzel- A Musical Adventure, at the Lee Lockwood Library and Museum, November 10-13, 2016. This hilarious musical will be presented by a 29 member cast of local youth. Rapunzel, named after the healing herb, comes to life on stage with engaging music, colorful characters and an intriguing story. She is kidnapped away from her royal heritage because of deceptive agreement between the king and the evil Dame Gothel. Rapunzel is locked in a secluded tower for many years until she becomes aware of the outside world when she meets the rowdy and colorful characters of Flint, Rusty, Curtis and Bart. They become friends and they persuade Rapunzel to come down from the tower and join them in their explorations and adventures. During their escapades she falls in love with Flint who convinces her to confront her wicked step mother. She eventually is reunited to her royal family and wed to her new found Prince. This cast is led by CYT Waco’s Artistic Director, Stephanie Gerath. Gerath is directing her fifth CYT Waco musical. According to Gerath, “While Rapunzel is the focus of the plot, Flint and his friends playfully steal the show.”
