Crafty Adults: Jewelry Making Session Two

Making your own jewelry is fun and rewarding. We've got everything you need to make something beautiful and unique. This class is totally free, but register online to save your spot, since materials are limited. In this second session, learn wire wrapping techniques to make great beaded earrings that you can show off!

Romp & Read

Chapter Book Chat: "The Dragonet Prophecy"

A war among seven dragon tribes has raged for generations. Five dragonets have been chosen to fulfill a prophecy that calls for great sacrifice. Their destiny is to end the war, but when they escape, their futures and the prophecy hang in the balance. Join us to discuss this, the first book in the Wings of Fire series. Titanic on Trial: Hart v. International Mercantile Marine, LTD., et al.

Witness a civil damage trial as survivors of Titanic seek justice for this human tragedy. Using modern law, technology, and theories, Baylor Law students will present a case to prove negligence in the maritime tragedy and collect damages for their clients. Acting as lawyers for the plaintiffs and defendants, law students will call witnesses, introduce evidence, and argue the case before a jury employing facts from the 1912 disaster. The trial is a collaboration between Mayborn Museum Complex and Baylor Law. One-time museum admission fee grants access to week long Titanic on Trial program. Free admission for Baylor students, faculty, and staff. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition admission is not included. Seating is limited.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

This six-week workshop developed by Stanford University will help you manage Type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetes or help care for a loved one with diabetes. Learn about the disease and how to set and reach healthy goals. STEAM Team: DIY Arcade!

Star Wars Party

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…no one knew how much Libraries Rock--but you do! Bring the whole family to our Star Wars party. We'll have Star Wars crafts and games. Test your Jedi skills, show off your costume (we'll have a prize for the best!) and more! We'll be here from 7 until 8:30, so stay for a little while or stay the whole time!

Teen Movie Matinee: Ant-Man

This is summer of sequels! Catch the originals with us before you head to the theatre for the new release! This week, we'll be watching Ant-Man! A regular cat burglar gets a super-suit with the ability to shrink to the size of an ant. He'll have to embrace his inner hero to save the world! All teens are welcome to this event, but you must be at least 12 to be unaccompanied at the Library.

Art Afternoons

Even our youngest artists can make something awesome at this come and go event. Even when the temperature rises, art is always cool. We'll have a different project every week, so we hope to see you a lot! Be sure to wear something you don't mind getting a little messy

If the summer heat has got you down, we have the answer! Feel good movies and cold drinks. Join us for a film every week in June and take the chance to cool off at the Library. This week, watch Journey Back to Christmas starring Candace Cameron-Bure. A WWII era nurse is transported in time to 2016 and discovers that the true meaning of Christmas is timeless. 

Family Night: Pajama Party & Stuffed Animal Sleepover

Do you want to wind down the day with the library? The pajama party is the way to do it! First you'll wind up with a bedtime story that won't make you snooze quite yet. Bring your favorite stuffed animals to join the party. When you go home, the stuffed animals will stay and party all night! You can pick them up tomorrow and we'll have pics of what they did while no one was looking!

Glow Party

DESCRIPTION Please join us for the first Glow Party sponsored by the Waco Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Incorporated. Come prepared to strut your stuff in your best neon/glow attire. Prizes will be given to the best-dressed guests. Tickets are $25 per person. You will not want to want to miss out on this event! Delicious appetizers, cocktails, music and fun! SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES GET EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO HAWAIIAN FALLS WACO

Hawaiian Falls is hosting Champions Day at its Texas waterparks for individuals with special needs. The “Champions” (special needs children or adults) get in free. Companion tickets for family members or caregivers are only $10 (for up to 4 people per Champion.) Special needs individuals and their families will have exclusive access and use of the park from 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. The parks will open to the public 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (The Champions and caregivers can stay all day. Youth Flag, Tackle & Cheerleading for children ages 4-12. Waco United Youth Sports (WUYS) is a newly formed non-profit organization that has partnered with the City of Waco Parks & Recreations forming a unified organization for the youth in our communities. Several of Waco youth football organizations to include CenTex/Midway Pee Wee Football, Heart Of Texas Youth Football along with several on the smaller local league have joined in the forming of WUYS. The goal of our organization is to unify the City of Waco’s youth Flag, Tackle and cheerleading programs and expanding our program reach to families.

Crafty Adults: Polymer Clay Workshop Session One

What is polymer clay? We've got the answers! Join us for this intro to basic polymer clay techniques including working with tools, mixing colors and baking your finished products. You'll make a pendant, decorate it and bake it. The class is totally free, but register online to save your spot, since materials are limited.

Sensory-Friendly Matinee: My Little Pony

The Sensory Friendly Matinee is a movie viewing especially for our visitors with special needs. The lights are not too low and the sound is not too loud. There's plenty of room to move around and sing along! This month, join us for My Little Pony. A dark force conquers Canterlot and the Mane 6 use the magic of friendship to save their homeland.

Say Yes! Improv Class for Kids

Build confidence and public speaking skills while you play improv games and have fun. Kids will follow the first rule of improv theatre: "Say YES!" to stretch their minds and comfort zones.

Books & Brews continues in July with The Alice Network. Join us at this new adult book club that travels to convenient, social locations for monthly meetings. We’ll save you a seat! 1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie's parents banish her to Europe to have her "little problem" taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister. 1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she's recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she's trained by the mesmerizing Lili, the "Queen of Spies", who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy's nose. Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. PJ Masks Party

Normal kids by day, superheroes by night…PJ Masks are a great team! Watch the show, explore the library in a scavenger hunt and do some SUPER crafts! We'll have a chance to win some PJ Masks books, too, if you finish your scavenger hunt. We'll be here from 2 until 4, so stay for a little while or stay the whole time. You don't have to be here to win the raffle prize--we'll put out the call to the winning hero!

Pop-Up Saturday: Container Gardening

Can you dig it? Join DPM staff and the McLennan County Master Gardeners for some hands-on learning. Inspired by our summer exhibit, Eat Well, Play Well, this event will encourage visitors of all ages to grow their own vegetables, fruits, and herbs by planting a container garden . This Pop-Up Saturday activity is free with general admission and will be located in the Museum courtyard.

Workshop educators and Judges: RIO- America next top model (ANTM) Carl- is an Acting coach/Actor known for his many roles i.e., Have and the have nots, Quad, Macgver, Greenleaf and more. Design Den: Sewing

Connecting Cousins: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Oh My! a Brown Bag program

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are a great way to make connections. You can use social media to engage in genealogy research by finding lost relatives and more! Mary Evans, CTGS Member and Social Media Genealogy expert will share 10 great ways to use these new tools to find loved ones and make genealogy connections. This program is co-sponsored by the Central Texas Genealogical Society.

Every month, join us for an inclusive time for our friends with special needs. Individual stations are conducive to self-paced learning through painting, Legos, and other sensory activities that will encourage fine motor skills, working towards a goal, and creativity. It's time to make your own sock puppet and ROCK your socks! We have everything you need to make an awesome sock puppet--pom poms, wiggly eyes and more. Your puppet will come to life as you rock out in the puppet theater!
