Waco Metropolitan Area Regional Sewerage System

The Waco Metropolitan Area Regional Sewerage System (WMARSS) is a wastewater treatment effort owned and operated by the City of Waco, serving the cities of Bellmead, Hewitt, Lacy Lakeview, Lorena, Robinson, Waco and Woodway.

Through use of centralized regional service facilities, WMARSS has helped to reduce the environmental impact of multiple wastewater treatment facilities and protect and preserve our natural resources.

In addition to a system of wastewater interceptors and lift stations, WMARSS maintains and operates two wastewater treatment facilities.

About Biosolids:

  • The term sewage sludge is used in EPA regulations that establish a protective regulatory framework to manage the use and disposal of biosolids.
  • The terms biosolids and sewage sludge are often used interchangeably.
  • Effective sewage sludge and biosolids management options help ensure that useful materials are recycled on land and harmful materials are not released to water bodies.

Biosolids Management Policy Statement

WMARSS will pursue beneficial biosolids reuse options that protect human health and environmental quality, that are cost effective, and that provide flexibility with respect to end use.

WMARSS will implement this policy by:

  • Following the Code of Good Practice for biosolids developed by the National Biosolids Partnership.
  • Periodically evaluating the beneficial reuse options that provide for improved efficiencies and better meet the needs of the community.
  • Providing adequate training opportunities to personnel associated with the biosolids management programs.
