UPDATE 8/12/2020 Park reopening – The park is working to increase access in a phased approach. The park’s trails and picnic area are open. The park’s dig shelter, restrooms and outside bookstore are open at limited capacity. Please follow local area health orders and avoid crowding.. Guided tours of the fossil site are temporarily suspended though self-guided access is available (fee applies).

Waco Mammoth National Monument

Birthday Event: Ten Years of Waco Mammoth. Saturday Dec 14th from 10a-2p

Park opens at 9 am

Birthday event kicks off at 10 am
10:00 am: meet Paul Barron, one of the men who discovered our first bone!
    
10:30 am: take a free guided nature hike with master naturalist Don Alexander
    
11:00 am: meet Calvin Smith and David Lintz who dug up our fossils!
    
11:30 am: play fun nature-themed games with Ranger Kim.  You might just win a prize!
    
12:00 pm: Have some BIRTHDAY CAKE with the National Parks Conservation Association, Dr. Ellie Caston, Gayle Lacy, the Waco Mammoth Foundation, and representatives from the City of Waco and National Park Service who helped establish our unique partnership model of park management!
   
12:30 pm: second chance to take a free guided nature hike with master naturalist Don Alexander
    
1:00 pm: story time with Ranger Liz
    
1:30 pm: meet artist Lee Jamison who painted our 2 murals in the Dig Shelter

2:00 pm: event concludes and park open for tours until 5:00 pm
