UPDATE 8/12/2020 Park reopening – The park is working to increase access in a phased approach. The park’s trails and picnic area are open. The park’s dig shelter, restrooms and outside bookstore are open at limited capacity. Please follow local area health orders and avoid crowding.. Guided tours of the fossil site are temporarily suspended though self-guided access is available (fee applies).

Please support our preservation mission as access to the fossil bed inside the Dig Shelter is by ticket only. Fee applies.

Ticket Fees


The public is welcome at the Waco Mammoth National Monument anytime during regular operating hours.  We conduct guided walking tours every 30 minutes, so just show up and join the fun, no reservation needed! Tours last 45 min - 1 hour.

One of our excellent tour guides will lead you from the Welcome Center, down a 300 yard paved path to our Dig Shelter where our mammoth fossils are in situ.  During your tour, you will learn about the Ice Age, how our fossils were discovered, and why we are one of the most important paleontological sites in North America.

  •  Students (7th grade thru college): $4
  •  Children (PreK-6th grade): $3
  •  Infants (ages 3 and under): FREE
  • Please Note: National Parks Passes do not apply to guided tour fees.  Please support our preservation mission as access to the in situ fossil bed is by guided tour only while this new unit of the National Park Service is under development.

Group Tours and Field Trips

tours for groupsWe love school tours and large groups! Groups of 20 or more will receive discounted tour fees. Please book two weeks in advance by calling our Education Coordinator at (254) 750-7946. Pre-booked school tours (including day cares, summer camps, youth groups, etc) get to enjoy an enhanced version of our public tour.

One or more of our excellent tour guides will lead your group from our Welcome Center to the ampitheater where you will sit and learn about the Ice Age megafauna in Texas with the aid of posters and fossil props.  Next, your group will pause on our bridge and discuss the differences between archaeology and paleontology. Your guide will then take your group into our Dig Shelter to view our mammoth fossils and share their amazing stories.

  • Choose from a variety of optional add-on programs to enhance your educational experience at the Waco Mammoth Site!
  • Remember to bring a lunch to enjoy in our shaded picnic area!

Groups of 19 or fewer students:

Basic 1 hour tour and program (tour appropriate for all ages): $4.00 or $3.00 per kid. At least one adult required with group of 19 or fewer: (Adult tour fee: $5.00 ea)

Groups of 20 or more students receive discounted admission:

Basic 1 hour tour and program (tour appropriate for all ages): $3.00 or $2.00 per kid. At least one adult required per 20 kids (Adult tour fee: $4.00 ea with group)
