Psychological First Aid (PFA) is an initial disaster response intervention with the goal to promote safety, stabilize survivors of disasters and connect individuals to help and resources. PFA is delivered to affected individuals by mental health professionals and other first responders. The purpose of PFA is to assess the immediate concerns and needs of an individual in the aftermath of a disaster, and not to provide on-site therapy.
There are 5 total PFA trainings and one exercise scheduled over the next 6 months, and they all must be attended in order to be certified. Those who attend all PFA trainings and the final exercise in June will become certified and can be utilized during a response intervention to provide any needs to individuals affected in the aftermath of a disaster.
