Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training provides an opportunity for people to help their neighborhoods prepare for emergencies and disasters. 

Training covers basic preparedness, first aid, fire suppression, team operation, and light search and rescue procedures. The CERT program is supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The training is provided free of charge.

The CERT course is offered annually in the Waco area. Please check www.PreparingTexas.Org and search for CERT G-317 to find a scheduled course.

Free online CERT training is also available at the following link:  IS-317 course offered online by FEMA. This is an independent study course that offers flexible online training.

Heart of Texas Amateur Radio Club (HOTARC)

The Heart O' Texas Amateur Radio Club (HOTARC) is a non-profit corporation chartered by the State of Texas and affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the North Texas Section (NTX), District 6. Membership is open to licensed amateur radio operators and others with an interest in amateur radio. We are primarily a service-oriented organization: providing storm-spotting for the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth, communications support for area special events, and educational programs for area schools and youth organizations, license classes, and so forth. American Red Cross

The American Red Cross Serving Central Texas is dedicated to serving our mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in and around the region. This work is carried out every day by our dedicated staff and volunteers. Whether it’s serving our Armed Forces, offering lifesaving health safety and preparedness skills, or providing help and hope after a disaster, the Red Cross is there.

We are extremely proud of the great work our team is able to accomplish day-after-day, year-after-year. It is through generous donations and the hard work of our dedicated volunteers that we are able to serve our communities.

Shelter Services: Make sure families don't face tough times alone by supporting shelter efforts this disaster season. Click "Apply Now," then search for “Shelter” in the search bar to find positions.

Disaster Action Team: You can be part of a team that helps people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other disasters.  Click "Apply Now," then search for “DAT” or “Disaster Action Team” in the search bar to find positions.

Please note that positions will vary by location.

SKYWARN

In an effort to obtain critical weather information, the National Weather Service (NWS) established SKYWARN® with partner organizations. SKYWARN® is a volunteer program with between 350,000 and 400,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

Central Texas Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

The Mission of the CTMRC is to recruit, specifically train and retain volunteers to expand the health and medical response capabilities within McLennan County. The CTMRC seeks to advance volunteerism in McLennan County by partnering and training with the Heart of Texas Council of Governments Citizens Corps, AmeriCorps and with local chapters of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Volunteers.
