Sight Obstructions

  • Section 25 of the City of Waco Codes and Ordinances contain the City traffic ordinances.  The most common ordinance violation we receive is sight distance violations.
  • The City of Waco has minimum sight distance requirements that must be adhered to at all times.  Whenever installing fences, trees, or any other shrubbery, citizens should first check with the City to make sure they are going to allow for proper sight distances.  Traffic Services has sight distance guidelines for both arterial and local streets.
  • You can see all of the Traffic Ordinances by following this link:  Traffic Ordinances
    • Arterial Streets: Arterial Streets are those such as Waco Dr., New Rd., or Valley Mills Dr. which carry a very high volume of daily traffic.  On these roads when a driver is set back 15ft from the curb line at a height of 3.75ft, the driver must be capable to see clearly for a distance of 350ft in either direction.  Corner lots may not have anything taller than 3ft in a 30ft x 30ft triangle
    • Local Streets: Local streets are those that are primarily residential and carry a small volume of daily traffic.  On these streets when a driver is set back 10ft from the curb line at a height of 3.75ft, the driver must be capable to see clearly for a distance of 200 feet in either direction.  Corner lots may not have anything taller than 3ft in a 30ft x 30ft triangle.
