I am writing this letter today to make you aware of the professionalism and care I received from two of your officers last week in dealing with a theft at my residence.
First, on Saturday evening, March 8th, Patrol Officer Jason Vela #125, responded to my initial call to Waco Police Department. He listened to all the circumstances that had occurred that day and calmly explained the options I had for pressing charges. He also got to meet our suspect and his encounter lead me to choose to find more information before filing charges. His dealings with me were both professional and compassionate and deserve to be praised. He gave me faith that once I did file my case I would be more than just a number by his caring attitude.
Second, after filing my case on Sunday and waiting for it to be assigned to a detective, I was able to speak with Detective Eric Hawkins on Tuesday morning, March 11th, and let him know that the suspect had confessed to me and my friend when we asked her about the theft and that I feared she would flee to another state very soon. Detective Hawkins met with me within an hour of that phone call and had a warrant ready to be signed after getting statements from me and my friend. He was a consummate professional while still being very kind and compassionate towards my strife this theft had caused. He then walked the warrant to the judge and was apprehending the suspect with in four hours from my leaving the police station. To say that I am impressed with these results would be an understatement.
I would like both of these officers to know how much I appreciate their willingness to help me in this whole process. They both truly exemplify their oath to protect and serve the citizens of Waco and should be commended for their handling of my case no matter what the legal outcome. They have instilled my faith in what Waco PD does on a daily basis.
