Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization

The Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) coordinates transportation planning activities for all of McLennan County. Click here for a map showing the Metropolitan Area Boundary.

The MPO was established by the federal government to ensure that transportation decisions within the MPO area are performed in a continuing, comprehensive and cooperative process. The MPO provides a forum for local input into the expenditure of federal highway and transit dollars.

The MPO is governed by an 18 member Policy Board who adopts all MPO plans and programs and determines regional transportation policy. For a current list of Policy Board members, click here.

The Policy Board receives technical recommendations regarding specific projects and all plans and programs from the MPO Technical Committee. For a current list of Technical Committee members, click here.

See the meetings page for information regarding the next scheduled Policy Board and Technical Committee meetings.

"The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) provides funding for project construction, transit programs, and planning activities. It also identifies the primary goals of the MPO and governs it's activities. For more information on TEA-21, visit the Federal Highway Administration.

The 2012 – 2013 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) identifies the work tasks the Waco MPO intends to accomplish during the next 2 years and the estimated costs to complete these tasks.  The UPWP serves as the operating budget for the MPO.
