Assistant City Manager - George Johnson, Jr.
Greetings, I am George Johnson, Jr., Assistant City Manager here in the City of Waco. As a member of the City Manager's Executive Staff, I am the team leader for the Municipal Services Departments, which are identified on your City of Waco Organizational Chart as the Economic Development and Tourism Team. This team includes the Airport, Zoo, Economic Development, Waco Transit, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Waco-McLennan County Library, Finance, Housing & Community Development, the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District and Waco Convention and Visitor Services Bureau.
Please know that each department mentioned contributes immensely to the overall quality of life that we have come to enjoy and appreciate as citizens of Waco.
As an Assistant City Manager, I am also responsible to the City Manager for drafting policies and implementing activities that include encouraging the creation of jobs and assisting small and large businesses in expanding their facilities and the tax base in our community. To this end, I work closely with the banks, individual entrepreneurs, Chambers of Commerce, developers and numerous other public and private sector organizations at the federal, state, and local level.
I am a graduate of Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii, with a Bachelor's degree in Business Management/Accounting. I also completed a Masters of Divinity at Southern Methodist University with additional graduate course work in education and management.
I am a member of the Texas Industrial Council, the Texas Economic Development Council and the Texas City Manager's Association. I have been married for 38 years to Phyllis Davis Johnson and we are thankful to have three wonderful offspring. Welcome to the City of Waco!
