Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program
What is HPRP?
Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-housing (HPRP) funds are part of the Recovery Act of 2009. $1.5 billion dollars in HPRP funding has been allocated all over America. This money is designated to help those at risk of becoming homeless, as well as those who have recently become homeless. The City of Waco received $685,000 to be spent within the next 3 years. The Salvation Army Waco Corp received $999,980 which will be disbursed with partnering agencies, Caritas of Waco and Catholic Charities of Central Texas (CCCT).
Eligible Activities
HPRP funds can be used to help with short to medium term rental and utility assistance for those who qualify. This may include rental assistance, security deposits, moving costs, hotel/motel vouchers, utility assistance, utility deposits, as well as case management for participants.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria
Participants must:
- Be a renter
- Be at 50% or below of median income
- Be or become homeless if not for this assistance (be facing eviction, utility shut off, or have recently become homeless)
- Participate in an initial assessment with a caseworker to further determine their eligibility for the program.
