Worker's Compensation

The City provides workers compensation insurance to employees and volunteers for job-related injuries and occupational illnesses. While on worker's compensation, the City pays that portion of the employee's average weekly salary not paid by worker's compensation insurance, for a period of up to 180 cumulative calendar days. Employees receiving worker's compensation benefits continue to accrue sick and vacation leave.

Work Related Injury or Illness

Each employee is required to report an injury or illness to his or her supervisor as soon as possible. This should occur no later than the end of the next working day. After reporting the job-related injury or illness, an employee should be referred to the Employee Health Services Center for examination.

Return to Work

Employees are required to meet with an Occupational Health Nurse in the Employee Health Clinic prior to returning to work anytime work time is lost to either an injury or illness suffered on or off the job. The nurse or the employee's supervisor may require a physician's statement verifying the absence. The City will consider reasonable accommodation for employees whom a physician has placed on restricted work.
