From City Manager
Larry D. Groth

This issue of City Talk celebrates the achievements of more than 250 employees who were nominated as part of this year’s Employee Recognition awards program. I would like to extend my congratulations to all of the nominees.

What makes this program significant is it offers a small way to express our appreciation for outstanding efforts in the areas of teamwork, customer service, community service and lifetime achievement.

I realize these nominations represent a small sample of the stories of excellent service that happen in our organization every day. At the same time, it is appropriate to take time to celebrate a few extraordinary contributions, including the times when employees exceed expectations and team with other departments to achieve what might seem impossible.

All of the nominees are encouraged to attend the awards ceremony on Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Bosque Theatre at the Waco Convention Center. We will literally roll out the red carpet to express our appreciation.

I would like to thank Gary Johnson and Larry Holze in advance for coordinating and planning this year’s ceremony. As in past year’s, the event promises to be highly entertaining with “celebrity” guest appearances and professional production elements such as a spotlight and theme music.

A special thanks to this year’s panel of judges: Byron Johnson, David Shoffit, Melissa Cervantes, Gary Lee and Norman Hogue, who had the difficult task of selecting this year’s award recipients. A

s you interact with any of the nominees in the coming days, please congratulate them for their accomplishments. I also encourage everyone to be on the look out for future efforts that may be worthy of recognition in next year’s ceremony. Nomination forms are available on the S:Drive and on the Employee intranet at www.waco-texas.com/intranet.htm. It’s not too early to begin submitting new nominations.

Finally, I would like to end by thanking all of you for your hard work and by reminding you that your efforts are appreciated!

Beginning in February, the City of Waco is participating in the Great Texas Warrant Round-up along with more than 150 other entities across the state of Texas including Amarillo, Abilene, Austin, Brenham, Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Hewitt, Houston Metroplex, Marble Falls, Midland, San Angelo, San Marcos and many other cities in between.

If you have an outstanding fine with any of these law enforcement agencies in the state of Texas, a warrant may be pending for your arrest.

The Waco Police Department will join forces with other law enforcement agencies to actively search for those who have failed to pay their fines and will arrest them at home, place of business or wherever they may be found.  To avoid being arrested and loss of rights for renewal of a driver’s license, citizens must act immediately and pay their fines.

For information regarding the Great Texas Warrant Round-up, visit the City of Waco Web site at www.waco-texas.com and select Municipal Court.  If you know you have an outstanding traffic warrant, you can appear at the City of Waco Municipal Court, 201 W. Waco Dr., or call 750-5900 for information on how and where to pay the fine.

You will not be arrested when you appear at the City of Waco Municipal Court to dispose of your outstanding fine.
