Employee Health Services - What can it do for you?

The City of Waco offers all its full and part time employees access to immediate health services through the Employee Health Services (EHS) Department. All the nurses who work in the EHS are registered nurses who hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. They are available Monday - Friday 7am until 4:30 pm (closed Thursdays 12 pm 2 pm). Each of these nurses brings a diverse background from various specialty areas within the health care profession. This diversity makes it possible to deliver quality care to the employees of the City of Waco. The services offered at EHS are as varied as the needs of the employees.

  • Treatment and follow-up of job related injuries such as back injuries, motor vehicle accidents, sprains/strains, sunburns, cuts, bumps, bruises, and rashes from poison ivy or oak.
  • Treatment and follow-up of non-job related injuries. This includes the evaluation and treatment of injuries received while off the job.
  • Treatment and follow-up of illnesses such as headaches, sinus/allergy symptoms, viral illnesses, etc. The nurses treat minor illnesses with over-the-counter medications and when necessary refer the employee to a physician.
  • Health screenings such as vision, hearing, weight, tuberculosis, and high blood pressure.
  • Immunizations and injections including flu shots, tetanus, rabies and Hepatitis B( for employees in what has been determined as an "at risk" position), TB, and allergy shots as prescribed and approved by your physician.
  • Substance abuse screenings are conducted for post-accident, random, promotional, and pre-placement needs.
  • Pre-employment exams and medical histories are completed on each applicant during their employment process.
  • Consultations and counseling are available for employees with a wide variety of health related problems. The nurses assist with referrals to physicians, answer workman's compensation questions and complete Family Medical Leave paperwork. Limited counseling is provided and referrals are made if the employee requires counseling outside the nurses' scope of practice.
  • First aid supplies are dispensed for City of Waco first aid kits.

This is by no means a complete list of all that EHS can do for you. The nurses of EHS want to help with your total health (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) and medical concerns. Come by and see the nurses when you are in need. EHS is located at 215 W. Waco Drive (next to the Health District Parking lot located off of Bosque Blvd.).
