Hours: Monday-Thursday OR Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-5:30pm with mandatory overtime.
Maintain the city streets, drainage ditches, landfill, or facilities by operating heavy equipment and trucks including, but not limited to: tractor and tractor trailer, loader, backhoe, graders, tandem truck, asphalt laydown machine, water truck, sweeper, jet rodder, flatbed tanker, dump truck, bulldozer, motor grader. Excavate and haul cover materials. Bring to and remove materials from work locations to include cleaning streets and roads to maintain their appearance and safety and performing maintenance tasks such as laying pipe. Maintain records of work performed. Maintain, resurface and construct alleys and streets by operating road grading and laydown machines; reconstructing contours; performing landscape construction; operating small machinery to repair, replace, and resurface concrete and asphalt by operating the equipment listed above. Maintain proper operation of the vehicle by performing minor maintenance repairs including adding fuel, fluids, grease, oil, cleaning and tightening bolts & screws; checking for leaks; and inspecting vehicle for safety. Keep the work location clean and orderly by using pitch forks, brooms, and shovels. Follow City and departmental policies and procedures. Work safely in accordance with the Safety Plan, Department Safety Plan and supervisory directives. Perform other related duties as assigned. Exposed to extreme heat, cold, rain humidity, wetness, hazardous chemicals, insects, dust, poisonous plants, unpleasant smells, fumes, traffic hazards and physical stress from exertion. Some incumbents may have contact with buried electric, phone, or television cable lines. This position follows DOT guidelines.
REQUIRED:
Drivers License: Valid Class A Texas DL with Tanker Endorsement, will need to show proof of a passed Class A with Tanker Endorsement written test at time of application. (Will have two weeks from date of hire to obtain driving portion of CDL & endorsement).
Education: Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency. Must have the ability to read and write.
Experience: Two years of experience operating light or heavy equipment is required.
Certifications: No certifications required.
Testing: No testing is required.
