Belly Dancing

Learn how to shimmy, circle, lift and drop one step at a time! Belly dancing boasts a long history as a social dance enjoyed by women of all ages and body types. Local dance and drama teacher Tracey Villanueva teaches fusion style belly dancing, building on the fundamentals of cabaret and Middle Eastern belly dancing with a mix of modern musical styles from home and around the globe. You'll practice body isolation techniques, learn several dance routines and get tips on making inexpensive costumes. Wear comfortable clothing to class. Robotic Olympics

Join instructor Cindy Olbrich of Engineering for Kids for this Robotic Olympics camp. You will design and program robots to compete in simulated Olympic events such as sprinting in a race, throwing a basketball, and shooting a puck into a hockey goal. Invader Defense-Shark Attack

Watch out! It’s a shark attack! Join instructor Cindy Olbrich of Engineering for Kids in this electronic game design class where we will create our own version of an invader defense game that will allow us to protect a coral reef from hungry sharks. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard and outline the rules of play for our game. Then, we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the camp, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game (Clickteam Fusion 2.5® does not support Mac or Android operating systems). For children ages 7 to 14 years old. Kids-Let's Get Cooking

This one-week session will highlight both microwave and oven-free dishes for teens ages 13-17. These simple recipes, from the ultimate lettuce wrap to the freshest fruit salad, will give young chefs a focus on both taste and nutrition. Kids will learn quick and easy dishes using leftovers in all new ways, like shredded pork for the ultimate barbeque sandwich with both heat and sweet to delight the taste buds. Family Dining Etiquette

Are you tired of nagging your children about their table manners? Fret no more - help is on the way! Manners maven Sarah Aynesworth can teach your child dining skills during an interactive three-course dinner. Topics include the seven ingredients of a good introduction, napkin etiquette, using silverware properly, place settings and how to set the table, how to cut your food properly, and other dos and don’ts while dining. After this class, you will only have to say, “Is that what Mrs. Aynesworth taught you?” Class is held in MCC’s Conference Center, and individual dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated. Children must be 7 to 12 years old, and parents or guardians must register with their children. Registration deadline is June 1. Cost of registration is $39. Babysitter Basic Training

Get that summer job or learn how to help with younger siblings! With instruc¬tor Carolyn Brooks, you will learn how to be a safe, efficient, and confident babysitter. Topics include babysitter lead-ership, safety rules for the house, rewards and positive discipline, sitter basics (from diapering and bottle feeding to games/songs and preparing for bedtime), and mock job interviews. You will also view a virtual safe house and participate in mock emergency situations. Each student will receive 10 babysitter business cards. Students must be 9 years or older. BUZZ OFF 2016

Mark your calendar for this educational Bugfest event for the whole family: Buzz Off 2016, is a mosquito awareness campaign hosted at the Lake Waco Wetlands on Saturday June 25, 2016. Bring the family for a come & go event to learn from local experts about mosquitoes, their natural predators, and how to Fight The Bite by controlling mosquito habitat. Feel free to also tour the outdoor wetland area during your visit. We will have information presented by City departments; Health, Solid Waste, Storm Water and the Wetlands. Other participating organizations from our community are Baylor University, Texas Tech, MCC, TSTC, McLennan County Master Gardener’s, and Heart of Texas Master Naturalists. They will provide information on biological ways to combat mosquitoes, as well as material on bats, frogs, birds & plants that deter mosquitoes. Free to the public, come & go event.

"Who Did It?"-CSI Forensics

Aspiring detectives and crime scene investigators, you have a murder to solve! Suzanne Baldon, MCC criminal justice and anthropology professor, offers this riveting Kids College course to students who will work with a forensic science kit of real evidence and forensic tests in a lab at MCC's Emergency Services Education Center. Learn how to dust finger prints, test fabric samples for the presence of blood, and much more! Students take home their kits after the course. Students must be entering 8th, 9th, or 10th grades.

Minecraft: Traveling into the Future

Join instructor Cindy Olbrich of Engineering for Kids in a future where the earth has been struck by a series of natural disasters. Each day, you will rely on the engineering design process as you work both independently and in teams to solve challenges such as building a city on a series of islands, escaping from a bunker on Mt. Everest, or building a rocket to land on the moon! While ap¬plying engineering principles, you will complete your mission and make the virtual world of Minecraft a safe place for humanity once again.
