51st Citizens Police Academy

The Waco Citizens Police Academy is designed to give citizens a working knowledge of the Waco Police Department and raises citizens awareness. Class topics include police recruiting, traffic stops, SWAT, police negotiations, K-9, building searches, gun range, crime scene, crime prevention, dispatch, defensive tactics, active shooter, drug awareness, family violence, crimes against children, and more. Instruction consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours and/or hands-on activities. Applicants are subject to a criminal background investigation, prior to being accepted into the academy. Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy are eligible to join the Waco Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association. The goal of the Association is to enhance relations between the community and the police force. This academy is FREE, fun, and best of all educational! Baylor University Theatre Presents: Until the Flood

Until the Flood By Dael Orlandersmith. Until the Flood is a play about the reactions to the 2014 police shooting of Michael Brown Jr. in Ferguson, MO. Actress, playwright, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith will portray eight characters based on her interviews with Ferguson & St. Louis residents. Orlandersmith’s characters include a white police officer, a young black teenager, and a preacher. This play is a diverse perspective of the way trauma affects a community.
