2013 Teen Summer Reading Club

It's time to bring in your Reading Trackers! Come in to the branch where you signed up and redeem your T-Shirt and Coupons!

Dates have been extended to August 25th, 2013 

 

 

  • Read what you want. Choose a book.
  • Record the books you read or listen to in your Reading Tracker.
  • Turn in your completed Tracker at the branch where you signed up between July 16th and August 10th.

Eight Weeks of programs includes:

Movies, Crafts and Special Theme events each week.

 

"At the Movies" start at 2:00 pm on Tuesdays at Central Library (Movie length varies)

"Craft Time" 2:00 - 3:30 pm on Wednesdays at Central Library

"Teens & Tweens Saturday Programs  2:00 - 4:00 pm
 Alternate between Central Library and at West Waco Library (see Calendar)

Week 1 Archaeology Adventure Week June 4 - 8

Tuesday At the Movies - an exciting egyptian archaeology themed classic!

Wednesday  Craft Time - Painted Cave Rocks and Fossil Casting

Saturday Program - Digging Archaeology Party - Discover Fossil Bones, Cave Man food, crafts!

At the West Waco Library - 5301 Bosque Blvd

 

Week 2 Gem and Crystal Week June 11 - 15

TuesdayAt the Movies - small-time magician is swept away to an enchanted land

Wednesday Craft Time - Grow your own Crystals, and create a Gem paperweight

Saturday Program - Gem Extravaganza - Learn about Gems and Rocks. Outdoor Rock Hunt!

Week 3 Steam Punk World's Fair Week June 18 - 22

Tuesday At the Movies - After NYC receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin.

Wednesday Craft Time - Make a miniature costume Top Hat or "leather" arm band

Saturday Program - Steampunk Party! - Costume Contest and Photo booth, gear-pendant craft, World's Fair foods, and more! Prizes.

Week 4 Marvelous Magic Week June 25 - 29

Tuesday At the Movies - join a boy in a storybook world as he befriends a dragon, tries to save a Princess and quests to stop the Nothing.

Wednesday Craft Time - Make your own Magic Trick! Disappearing Fan

Saturday Program - James Wand, Magician's Workshop - learn how to perform magic tricks, and take home your own magic trick kit.

Week 5 Shark Week July 9 - 13

Tuesday At the Movies - Lurking silently beneath the ocean's placid surface is one of nature's most terrifying creatures,the shark! 

Wednesday Craft Time - make a shark's tooth pendant to show off your love of all things SHARK!

Saturday Program - Shark Week Party! Eat chum, play sharky games, and take your own shark portrait.

At the West Waco Library, 5301 Bosque Blvd

 

Week 6 Hobbit Holiday Week July 16-20

Tuesday At the Movies - begin a quest with Bilbo Baggins and his dwarf companions as they travel towards the Lonely Mountain - note: this movie runs well over 2 hours, program will end at about 5:00.

Wednesday Craft Time: fold origami wizard hats, dragons, and more!

Saturday Program: Hobbit Holiday Party! - Eat favorite Hobbit foods, show off your knowledge in a Trivia Contest, and compete in a Costume Contest for Prizes.

Week7 Prehistoric Mammoths Week July 23-25

Tuesday At the Movies - Step into the hostile climates of the Cretaceous, Pleistocene, and Paleozoic time periods, as dinosaurs run amok.

Wednesday Craft Time - Cast your own Amber Soap and Paint an Animal Rock

*** Special Thursday Field Trip To the Waco Mammoth Site ***

RSVP required to reserve one of  of 25 spaces for this very special tour of the Mammoth Site and Archaeological Activity - attendees will meet at the Mammoth site on Thursday July 25 at 9 in the morning and join the Library Tour group.  Call 750-5944 to reserve your spot and get final details.

 

Week 8 Undersea Worlds Week July 30 - August 3

Tuesday At the Movies - watch the first movie of a popular book series - join the adventures of the son of a Greek God and his friends as they try to save the world!

Wednesday Craft Time- learn how to wear a toga and create a laurel wreath

Saturday Program - Son of Neptune Party - Compete in a Costume Contest, a Trivia Game, eat like a God, make a pendant revealing what Cabin you would choose to live in, and play Olympic-style Games. Prizes.
