Teens & Tweens Reading Club

Ages 12-17 are eligible.

Sign Up for the Teens & Tweens Reading Club between June 1 - June 30 at the Central Library, West Waco Library, or the South Waco Library!  Pick up your Summer Reading packet with Reading Record, Review Cards, and some fun giveaways. Read 4 to 6 books or more...

Turn in your Reading Record at the Library where you signed up to collect your prize. July 15th - August 8th.  Your Reading Record is your entry into the GRAND PRIZE DRAWING. An iPod Touch 5th generation for one Boy and one Girl winner!

More chances to Win! Read a book, then write a Review on a Book Review Card (in your signup packet).  Every week beginning June 12, winners will be drawn for pizza gift cards, movie gift cards, and more!

Read the reviews you wrote on our Teen Facebook page or at your branch in the teen area.

Last drawing July 31st.  Funding for Prizes provided by the Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library.

Craft Day Matinee at the Central Library - SUPERHEROES THEME

When: Tuesdays beginning June 9th at 2 p.m.
Where: Central Library Meeting Room 1717 Austin Ave.

"SuperHeroes" is the theme this year. Bring your friends and enjoy a movie and fun crafts and activites.   Don't forget to REGISTER if required below!

Tuesday, June 16 - Craft your own maze from a CD case while you watch Thomas and his friends try to escape a giant Maze in this dystopian thriller.

Tuesday, June 23 - Build Lego creations and paint Lego-style faces on your own storage jars while we watch this movie - bet you can't guess what it is!

Tuesday June 30 - Registration Required for this movie! We'll be painting superhero logos on t-shirts while we watch this CHILLY superhero tale.

Tuesday,  July 7 - Watch a superhero team assemble to save the world in this first of a series movie. Craft your own Captain America shield or Iron Man mask, or design your own personalized heroic logo.

Tuesday, July 14 - Is the evil queen REALLY all that evil, when she's protecting her kingdom? Find out in this Sleeping Beauty retelling. We'll be making toys and collecting dog or cat food donations for the Animal Shelter, and crafting your own button badges to keep.

Tuesday, July 21 - Pajama Party! Come to the Natural History Museum of New York dressed for a night of adventure. We'll be making Egyptian bracelets from water bottle plastic and paper, among other crafts.

Tuesday, July 28 - the final Summer movie! Come see part 1 of the third movie made from the book, Hunger Games trilogy, and construct your own quiver and arrows, and also make a word art charm!

Saturdays in June and July, from 2:00 - 4:00 (except July 4) we will host a fun and exciting Event Party. Teen Programs are for ages 11 - 17. Some events require Registration, so please check carefully and sign up on our Online Calendar.

Saturday, June 6th  at Central Library - Legends and Heroes in Fiction and Fable. Come dressed to impress as someone you’ve always dreamed of being from fiction!  Test your literary knowledge against your peers in a round of Jeopardy, and enjoy our literary smorgasbord.

Saturday, June 13 at Central Library - Super Science Extravaganza. Have some COOL science fun as we experiment with dry ice! Play with kinetic sand, make your own gak, and snack on some brain food.

Saturday, June 20 at West Waco Library - MINECRAFT Create and Connect. Race against the clock and your fellow teens through a winding maze with surprises at every turn. Eat yummy Steve-approved snacks and craft your very own Minecraft friends out of paper.  *Registration Required*

Saturday, June 27 at West Waco Library - Makerspace: Superhero Edition. Create and program a Lego WeDo construction. Push, Pull, Fly, or Race your Simple Machines made from recycled materials to complete a heroic challenge.

Saturday, July 4 - all library branches are closed to celebrate Independence Day.

Saturday, July 11 at Central Library - Avengers: World's Mightiest Heroes - Take costumed photo-ops, fill in hilarious super hero Mad-Libs, and make popsicle stick bookmarks that resemble your favorite hero!  Have fun with puffy paint!

Saturday, July 18 at West Waco Library - Mystery at the Superhero Summit. Mischief is afoot at annual Superhero meeting and it is up to YOU to figure out the culprit! Follow the clues and interview the suspects to determine who is GUILTY!  Enjoy great food and fun. *Registration Required*

**Saturday, July 25 - Field Trip to the Mayborn Museum! Meet at the Mayborn Museum near Baylor campus at 9:45 a.m. Tour exhibits from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Explore Shipwreck! Pirates and Treasure exhibit. FREE FOR TEENS!  *Limited Spaces* *Registration is Required*  Field Trip is sponsored by the Friends of the Waco-McLennan County Library.

Saturday, August 1 at Central Library - Hunger Games Continue: Tribute to the Girl on Fire. Come dressed as a character from the Hunger Games universe. Test your skills in our Cornucopia Games. Compete against each other and the clock as you navigate through difficult string mazes.

Be a Hero this Summer!   Donate to the Humane Society of Central Texas

The Animal Shelter needs:

  • Canned Dog, Cat, Kitten, or Puppy Food (unopened)
  • Dry Dog, Cat, Kitten, or Puppy Food (unopened)
  • Cat or Dog Treats or Milk Bones (unopened)

Between June 1 and August 8th when you come in to check out a book, turn in your review cards or come to a program at the library, remember to bring your donation to the Teen Area at your Library location.

DIY Cat and Dog Toys: We will be making these toys at the programs this summer, both the Craft Matinee Day on Tuesdays and the Saturday programs. Supplies will be provided at Craft Stations, just bring your creativity!
