Prostitution Sting - June 2007
|
Prostitution is not a victimless crime. Prostitutes
are victims of their own drug dependency and are often physically
or sexually abused by Johns. Many Prostitutes carry STDs or the
HIV virus that can be passed on to a John who in turn, can take
home to their unsuspecting spouse. Many John's are robbed of their
wallets or vehicles by Prostitutes. Residents of neighborhoods where
Prostitutes work are also affected. Sexual acts conducted between
Johns and Prostitutes are often in plain view of residents and used
condoms can be found in backyards along with drug paraphernalia.
The Waco Police Department Drug Enforcement Section
conducts Prostitution stings with the help of Patrol and the Safe
Unit. Thirty-four Johns were apprehended at the June 2007 sting.
Twelve Johns were arrested and taken to the McLennan County Jail
and had their vehicles towed. The offense of Solicitation of Prostitution
is classified as a Class B misdemeanor and can carry a sentence
of up to 180 days in jail and or a fine of $2000. If you suspect
Prostitution is occurring in your neighborhood, please call the
Waco Police Department at 750-7500.
