The Criminal Investigations Division is commanded by one of the three Assistant Chiefs and is composed of two sections, the Criminal Investigation Section and the Drug Enforcement Section. The Criminal Investigation Section is made up of the following units:

The Criminal Investigations Section has 19 detectives assigned to the different units. Each of the units is supervised by a Sergeant. The Section receives administrative support from four secretaries. The Heart of Texas Auto Theft Task Force is assigned to the Section.
