Community Services Division
The 3 patrol shifts enable the department to provide 24-hour police service to the Waco community. Shift I is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Shift II is 3 p.m. to 1 a.m.; and Shift III is 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. The officers that work these shifts are called "beat officers" because each officer is assigned to a particular beat, or geographic area, where he or she patrols and answers calls for service. Beat officers' duties include preliminary investigation of criminal cases, investigation of traffic accidents, directed patrol assignments, working problem areas, working preventative patrols within beats, and enforcement of traffic laws, City ordinances, and state laws. The administrative support for the Community Services Division includes a commander who serves as the Relief Commander for the 3 patrol shifts, a sergeant, and a secretary. The administrative sergeant handles scheduling, walk-ins, and phone inquiries and supervises the downtown patrol officer. See the Organization Chart below. Community Services Division Organization
