PARK CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Park projects are also underway in several neighborhood parks.


GRANT FUNDED PROJECTS

Project Name: Cotton Belt Rails to Trails Hike and Bike Trail
Scope: Recreational trail extending from landfill 2.5 miles along abandoned railroad bed and terminating at 19.2 acre park property in Sun West housing development area. Project to include trail with amenities, enhanced landfill entrance, and park development at park site.
Est. Completion Date: October 2009

Project Name: Waco Mammoth Site
Scope: Improvements at Waco Mammoth Site to allow visitor access including protective shelter over excavation area, drainage improvements, entry road, parking lot, trail, restrooms, ticket booth, security fence, lighting, and signage. Funds for the project from federal grant, Baylor University, and City of Waco along with donations collected by the Waco Mammoth Foundation.
Est. Completion Date: Fall 2009

BOND PROJECTS

Project Name: Cameron Park Renovation
Scope: Renovate Cameron Park in advance of 100 year anniversary in 2010 funded by $6.9 Million in bond funds. Plan for significant celebration of the Park in 2010.
Est. Completion Date: Spring 2010 (First donation of land for Cameron Park was May 19, 1910)

Project Name: Redevelopment of Cameron Park East
Scope: Redevelop Cameron Park East to replace aging infrastructure and enhance this regional park and outdoor special events center. City of Waco voted for $ 2.1 Million in bond funds for this project. Est.
Completion Date: Spring 2010

Project Name: Trail in Existing Parks
Scope: Add trail in 13 neighborhood parks across the City of Waco and also in the new community park site near Harris Creek Road. City of Waco voted for $ 900,000 in bond funds for this project. Parks include Alta Vista, Bell's Hill, Buena Vista, Chapel, Council Acres, Crestview, Gurley, Jaycee, Kendrick, Mitchell, Seley, Viking Hills, and Pioneer (Renaissance Estates park site).
Est. Completion Date: Fall 2009

Project Name: South Waco Center Renovation
Scope: Renovate the South Waco Park community center to reuse space vacated by the relocation of the South Waco library and to update the facility. City of Waco voted for $ 1,800,000 in bond funds for this project.
Est. Completion Date: Spring 2010

OTHER PROJECTS

Project Name: Cameron Park: Security Walls/ Fences
Scope: Replace aging security walls along cliff at Circle Point, Emmon's Cliff and Lover's Leap areas of Cameron Park.
Est. Completion Date: April 2009
