FAQS/ Accomplishments

The Parks and Recreation Department handles a wide range of environmental and recreational services. Employees maintain approximately 1,400 acres of park property, including Cameron Park, the Brazos River Corridor and numerous neighborhood parks. Crews also enhance city facilities like City Hall and the Waco Convention Center with scenic landscaping, while preparing athletic fields and beautifying nearly 100 miles of right-of-ways and creeks. Flowers and shrubs are produced year-round in a greenhouse, trees are planted regularly, and seeds are spread throughout Waco.

The department is also playing a large role in the planting of thousands of tree seedlings at the Lake Waco Wetlands. To learn how to donate a tree or adopt a park, contact (254) 750-8097

Waco’s geography allows for prime hiking and biking trails, and the department seeks to develop community areas with friendly features like spray parks.

Three recreation centers offer non-stop activities and programs for all ages.

The department facilitates more than 70 special events throughout the year. In order to produce our programs and events, we must rely strongly on the support of local businesses and individuals.
