City General Election
- May 10

The City of Waco General Election will be held on Saturday May 10 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will select the Mayor (at large) and Council Representatives for Districts I and III.

To determine your voting location, please refer to your voter registration card for the precinct number.

The polling locations are listed on the City of Waco Web site at www.waco-texas.com. For additional assistance call the City Secretary’s Office at 750-5750 or the McLennan County Elections Office at 757-5043.

The good times and great music continue downtown on June 6 with country classics Billy Joe Shaver and Tommy Alverson. Presented by GENCO Federal Credit Union, this Brazos Nights concert will get you on your feet for some down-home country music.

Also performing will be local country singer Kim Kelly. The concert series concludes on July 4 with a lineup of blues legends James Cotton and Diunna Greenleaf, and the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza.

The Brazos Nights concerts are free and will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Indian Spring Park, next to the Suspension Bridge. Concessions will be available. For more information and a complete schedule, call 750-5781 or visit www.waco-texas.com

Zoobilee and Kid Zoobilee 2008 are scheduled for Friday, June 27 and Saturday, June 28.

Zoobilee and Kid Zoobilee are the annual capital fund-raisers for the Cameron Park Zoo.

Zoobilee will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27 with the patron party and the general admission gate opens at 8 p.m.

Ticket packages range from a $2,500 table for 10 to $100 general admission. This year’s theme is “Jewels of the Jungle” and music will be provided by Classie Ballou.

The event will include a silent auction, an audible auction, and raffle tickets for $10,000 in jewels. Area children can join the celebration on Saturday, June 28, with Kid Zoobilee. The fun begins at 5 p.m. with the patron party and then continues on as the general admission gate opens at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $50 per child for patron admission and $25 per child for general admission. The cost for parents to attend with their children is $25 per adult. At least one parent is required to stay and help supervise his or her children. Kid Zoobilee is for children ages two to 12.

Activities will include games, crafts, face painting and plenty of food. It is recommended that the children wear swimsuits because some of the activities involve water to help them stay cool. Police Memorial Run

The Waco Police Association will hold a 5K (3.1 miles) and one mile Memorial Run on Saturday, May 17 at 8 a.m. at the Cameron Park Zoo.

Proceeds from this event will help to sponsor activities to recognize officers that go above and beyond the call-of-duty or were killed in the line-of-duty.

Household Hazardous
Waste Collection Day

The cities of Waco, Hewitt, Robinson, Lorena and Woodway will host a household hazardous waste disposal event on Saturday, May 17.

Residents of these cities may bring their waste to the City of Waco Solid Waste Operations Center, 501 Schroeder Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Schroeder Drive is accessible from the 5500 block of Franklin Avenue’s frontage road.

Participants may bring automotive, cleaning, gardening and paint products to this free event. Please bring a current water bill and driver’s license as proof of residency of one of the sponsoring cities.

Items such as business, industrial, medical, biological or radioactive waste; ammunition, explosives, fireworks, compressed gas cylinders, gasoline tanks, smoke detectors, industrial dioxins; electronics (such as computers); or containers larger than five gallons will not be accepted.

Waco Water Park
Opens May 27

Bring the family and spend the day at the Waco Water Park this summer. With two pools, two water slides, and fun for all ages, the Waco Water Park is the best way to beat the heat.

The spring hours are from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. from May 27 - June 4.

Then beginning June 5 through Labor Day, the Waco Water Park’s summer hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Admission prices for kids below 48 inches in height and spectators are $4. For those above 48 inches tall, the admission is $6, and children three and under are admitted for free. T

he Waco Water Park also has a variety of classes and activities throughout the summer. Classes and activities include Guard Start, Water Volleyball, Water Aerobics, Movie Nights, Dog Days, the Waco Wave Swim Team, and different rental options for birthdays and private parties.

Summer Splash

The Waco-McLennan County Library and Waco Water Park will sponsor Summer Splash Day on Tuesday, June 10 from noon to 4 p.m.

Present a library card or sign up for one at the Waco Water Park and receive free admission that day. For more information, call 750-7900.
